Philly papers to sell Android tablets with content (AP)

PHILADELPHIA ? The company that owns Philadelphia's two major newspapers will begin selling Android tablet computers preloaded with their content.

Philadelphia Media Network spokesman Mark Block says customers will be able to receive a tablet after buying subscriptions to the Inquirer or Daily News.

The computer will come with four news apps, including two that offer replicas of the papers' print editions. Customers will also get an Inquirer app with additional content and an app for philly.com, the website shared by both newspapers.

The venture comes nearly a year after the papers emerged from bankruptcy and continue to battle industry-wide declines. Block says the digital initiative will begin toward the end of August.

The company plans an official announcement Monday afternoon. The story was first reported in Adweek.
