New Jersey ? You Weigh In if It's the Place for You. ? Here and ...

Welcome To New Jersey Sign

I was born here in New Jersey and I take it for what is realistically.

Time to count down the pluses:

  1. Home of top entertainers like Springstein, Bon Jovi, Willis.
  2. Amusement parks and boardwalks?Great Adventure, Point Pleasant,?Seaside Heights, Ocean City, Wildwood provide family recreation.
  3. Scientific presence?Pharmaceutical firms and telecommunications?contribute to the economy.
  4. Military superbase presence in the Pinelands?42,000 contiguous?acres for combat capability (I pray we never need to use).
  5. Four season climate?warm summer, beautiful fall, winter with snow?and/or ice or not, spring above freezing with no frost.
  6. Great sandy coastal beaches with pubic access along 2/3 of the shoreline.
  7. Metropolitan living advantages?historical monuments, cultural?meccas, sporting events.
  8. Garden state?fresh fruit and vegetable produce like apricots,?asparagus, basil, beans, blueberries, cilantro, corn, cranberries,?cucumber, lettuce, peaches, peppers, rhubarb, spinach, tomatoes, yellow?squash, zucchini.
  9. Salaries?Second highest median income in the nation (2010 US Census).
  10. Good educational system?NJ schools rank among the best in the nation.

Time to weigh in the negatives:

  1. Homeless tent cities?Sites in Camden, Monmouth and Ocean Counties?(at least) are on record.
  2. Limited public housing?NJ zoning prohibits affordable housing?(see Mt. Laurel decision).
  3. Nuclear plants?New Jersey has four in operation (oyster Creek,?Salem I & II, Hope Creek).
  4. Corrupt politicians, bosses, and leaders?Gangsters, union?leaders, governors, mayors, school superintendents, police, political leaders, indicted.
  5. Poor public transportation in non-urban areas?Planes, trains, and?buses are prevalent in metropolitan areas.
  6. Poor road system?NJ 1,196person per square mile population?density causes congestion on roads.
  7. Illegal aliens?New Jersey ranks ninth in total number; these?people take services without contributing anything.
  8. High insurance?NJ health insurance cost is fourth nationally;?automobile insurance 22nd.
  9. High taxes?New Jersey has the highest median property tax plus?income tax and sales tax.
  10. High cost of living?New Jersey ranks fourth in state by state costs.

The economy is tight right now, but my family is here. It?s what I know, so I am staying put. I don?t want to go searching for a rainbow that I can never find in places that are still fighting the War between the States, where finding a good job is hard, where people think a good education is reading at the fifth grade level, women working a cash register are in high managerial positions, or the cost of living is even higher than it is here.

It?s all?about perspective. ?I?m really curious about what life is like in your state? ?Please let?me know the good, the bad, the ugly and llease don?t pull any punches.
