Company Overview
Young Writers' Academy is an after school creative writing enrichment program which provides workshops that are not only fun, but offer students an opportunity to explore their creative side while achieving a higher level of academic excellence. A standard after school program is 7-8 weeks in length and consists of short story writing, poetry & art, newspaper writing, stage writing and non-fiction writing for example. The YWA curriculum aligns with National Writing Standards and has been kid-tested and approved!
Instructor:
As an independent contractor you will conduct the YWA curriculum within a school or other facility setting for groups of children (groups can consist of 8-20 students). YWA will provide you with the curriculum, all materials/supplies and complete training on the workshop and program. Workshops will be held on Tuesdays from 12:30 -- 3:00 p.m., Wednesdays from either 7:00 a.m. -- 9:00 *** 12:30 - 3:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:00p.m. -- 5:00 p.m. Our next series will begin the week of September 27, 2011. Current opportunities exist within the Sabino Canyon & Oro Valley Areas. (Zip code 85750, 85742, 85737 and 85739) We will be expanding into other areas as well.
Instructor Requirements
? Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree or higher (within any field) with 3+ years of experience working with children; one year must be as a group leader or instructor within a classroom (volunteer experience is acceptable)
? Comfortable instructing groups of up to 20 children for a high energy 1 hour (or otherwise indicated) interval
? Upbeat, engaging personality required
? Very good writing & speaking skills
? High level of customer service & professionalism required
? Current or former Teacher License a plus
Instructors must pass state & national criminal background checks & complete the YWA orientation.
Instructor Compensation
Compensation for a one and a half (1.5) hour workshop is between $28-$40 depending on education, experience & number of paid participants. We offer a flat fee rate for camps and clubs. If applicable, instructors may also enroll one child within an YWA workshop free of charge. Additionally, there are workshop pay increases with each new semester of classes you teach. Please note the compensation covers instruction time, as well as time spent outside of the classroom to prep for class, edit student work and prepare the finished product.
