The first six days of Olympic competition have certainly given sports fans plenty of reasons to cheer, but there's definitely some extra excitement at St. Thomas Aquinas.

That's because six former Raiders are in London trying to chase down medals for their respective countries. The six former St. Thomas standouts across the pond? Foluke Akinradewo (USA, volleyball), Bradley Ally, (Barbados, swimming), Sarah Lihan (USA, sailing), Kirsten Nieuwendam (Suriname, track and field), Vlad Polyakov (Kazakstan, swimming), and Sanya Richards-Ross (USA, track and field).

Three other South Florida high schools--Cardinal Newman, Flanagan and Sagemont--have each sent two alums to the Olympics. The former Newman standouts are Melissa Ortiz (Colombia, soccer) and Laura Reback-Bennett (USA, triathlon). The Flanagan grads are Alia Atkinson (Jamaica, swimming) and Eric Alejandro (Puerto Rico, track and field). Sagemont's Olympians are Daniella Van Den Berg (Aruba, swimming) and Jemal Le Grand (Aruba, swimming).
